validated...

so i was talking to the girls i work with about scrapbooking. about how a lot of people have a negative perception of the hobby. they totally thought i was crazy and think it is one of the coolest things ever. {could totally be a ploy to trick me into making fabulous works of art for them...anywho.} i told them that a lot of times i am leary of telling someone that i scrapbook. so sad. i'm a grown woman. who cares what other people thing, right? wrong. it bugs me and i know it shouldn't but i'm sure i have a zillion insecurities that years of therapy may not even touch. but now that i have had a card picked to be published, i almost sort of feel validated.
i know. horrible right? i always said that this hobby was for me. that i wasn't doing it for anyone else to be published. but now that it's happened, i am kind of relieved.
that if someone ever snickers after i tell them that i scrapbook that i can oh so maturely, zing back at them, 'oh yea, well, i've been published.' what the heck is wrong with me...
again the girls thought i was a loon. love them for being supportive. i might even have suckered a few of them into this hobby!
any thoughts? shall we discuss? or should everyone just tell me that i'm nuts? :)

If you're nuts, then so am I. I get the rolled eyes sometimes too. Best of all, when I've come home from my scrap weekends, the boys can't wait to see what I've done. Only validatio I need...

Keep up the good work, I love what you do!!

Your work is totally "validated" in my eyes, Shannon, always loved it. I'm only assuming you havent been published before cos you didnt submit!! Anyway totally hear you on this. What bugs me is that most people here have never heard of it and IF i explain it, they're still none the wiser?? maybe its my explaining skills that are lacking LOL! I, personally, just love the challenge of "arranging" things on a page. (i was a florist in my other life :-), the bonuns being, at the end of the arrangement, I have created a small piece of history for my boys (and family back home who obviously dont get to see our day to day life). Although it's a buzz to get praise/be published the boys LOVE to look at the albums. It's so funny to watch them "discussing themselves" LOL When I'm happy with my page, it goes in an album - once in the album - it's validated!

I LOVE Hera's comments!!!
I feel the same way about mentioning that I scarpabook. Even at LSS crops people roll their eyes because I have too much stuff, take too long, etc. My family (ok John and the boys) loves it and it keeps me sane.

I totally get what you're saying. Everyone already said it so well... I've been lucky because my family (immediate, and Brent's parents) have always loved it. It was a buzz when I got my page published, too though. That's what we've got all the KNKers for!
