wip 11.17.12

friday:
had a date with my girlfriend to see breaking dawn. nick was bummed but said i could go. we ended up going to a later show, and nick was able to sneak out of work a bit early to join us! i thought it was alright. definitely didn't seem like two hours. love it when movies fly by!

then it was time to relax. just hung out at the house. enjoying each other's company.
a little boy was being very overprotective of his cheez-its!

practicing our golf skills. i think kitty was very intrigued.

saturday:
enjoying a few quiet moments while nick and i were getting ready.

ben went on an adventure with jer bear, gibi, and bri.

nick and i wasted time trying to figure out what to do with ourselves. we've never had ben not at home. if we're away he's at home. so strange to not have him in the house for the day.

stopped for dinner at houlihan's. nick hadn't been there in ages. was a nice departure from our usual stops!

they have the best flat bread pizza. not the prettiest looking thing but so good!

decided to see the man with the iron fists. eh. nick was extremely disappointed. i didn't expect anything. i did laugh at some of the cheesy-ness!

someone not following the rules in the theater. like i'm any better since i took a picture, right?

it was sooo cold in there. i had on my gloves, put socks on, and was dreaming about a scarf for the entire two hours!

sunday:
impromptu frisbee golf outing with jay and chris. love that they still have their pumpkins out. that's why we are such good friends. ;-)

after a starbucks stop, we headed to lemon lake. it was my first time playing. didn't have the highest expectations. actually, was hoping not to play but my lovely friends wouldn't allow that. i believe there was a text to nick about how i needed to go for entertainment value and something about cussing. for the record, miss cooper cursed way, way more than i did!

hello shadow.

hello starbucks and pretty back drop!

here we go!
planning their strategy. um, mine is to get it to go straight and kinda far!

i love fall. so beware of the crazy amount of photos that will be coming up!

see nick trying to stand guard way down there? apparently, they do this often. will knock down a rogue frisbee if necessary!

nick almost lost his favorite disc on the first throw.
going to find it...

have to play it where it lies.

the course we played wasn't very friendly. were random signs posted. thankfully, they have all played before and knew where to go.

the boys started the second hole from a further tee.

chris trying to find nick's frisbee!

a little to the left!

crap. my turn to venture into the weeds!

i was attacked by burrs.

mister i can throw super, crazy far. and here we all thought his super power was catching frisbees?!

i was too chicken to try chris' approach. maybe next time.

her turn to be in the weeds!

my love.

the best sign ever. 'please feed the garbage cans.' i asked nick to take the picture, so it's not the best close up...

there were some amazing white birch's. so, so pretty.

nick almost lost another one to the water. he was lucky that the tree was looking out for him!

hello trees. ;)

i spy a nick.

the weather was gorgeous. and the sky was such a pretty blue!

silly boys. jas was jealous he didn't have to throw from nick's position. apparently, it's his favorite?

loved crunching through the leaves. i'm not sure i would have enjoyed the experience had it been hot and humid. i'll stick with going in the fall!

the leaves were deep! nick almost tripped and fell because he didn't think they were as deep as they were. was quite funny!

the leaves tried to claim my frisbee.

do you see it?

ugh. bad throw!

the coolest bunch of trees.

the tree caught jason's frisbee. he gave it back though.

some funky mushrooms on a tree stump.

spent the afternoon napping off and on. and enjoyed some football.
nick even made dinner! yay and yum.

then he got even more domesticated and pulled out the ironing board and iron. what is wrong with my husband?

and ben wanted to mop!? {i think that my mom has pictures of my brother mopping in his undies when he was about this age too.}

came downstairs to chewbacca helping nick type after putting ben to sleep. silly cat!

recipes. part three?

i can't remember how many posts have been strictly devoted to recipes as of late and i'm too lazy to search and find out. ;)

time for some more!

the best margaritas: super good.

cherry beergaritas: also way good.

{don't judge because the first two are alcoholic. ;)}

crock pot italian chicken: according to nick it was good. a keeper. however, i had no taste buds when we had it thanks to a silly cold.

tuscan pasta with tomato basil cream: i thought it was decent. nick was a fan. said i had to keep the recipe!

baked oatmeal: yum. the house smelled delicious when cooking. that's always a bonus. gonna try to mix it up with apples and raisins {think mcd's!} too.

green chile beef tacos: eh. tasted like italian beef. maybe i grabbed the wrong cut of beef. entirely possible and it wouldn't be the first time.

white pizza grilled cheese:  super tasty. added some pepperoni to a few just to mix it up a bit. dipped em in pizza sauce.

spicy sausage pasta: holy deliciousness. i used hillshire farms smoked sausage because i had it on hand. i also didn't broil as directed. so good. loved that it's a one pan meal and done from start to finish in 30 minutes. will most definitely be making it again and again.

slow cooker italian sausage and beans: so good. very hearty. perfect fall/winter recipe.  nick approved and was hesitant when i showed him the recipe. love it what that happens.

beer milkshakes: only tried em because nick heard about them at a local restaurant. we went the next day and they were sold out of the beer. found this recipe and gave it a go. wasn't too bad. the hard part was the beer foaming before we blended it. might be really good with a guinness.

reuben casserole: we are big corned beef people. nick said it was really good like five times when he was eating it. i think i would add a bit less cheese and a bit more pickles. oh and i didn't use the caraway seeds. ben was not a fan. said it smelled! he was right... sauerkraut and corned beef is pretty stinky!

sloppy joe grilled cheese: inspired from this post.  i used regular old bread and american cheese. just made my sloppy joe as usual, then put it in the middle of a grilled cheese. yum!

easy pad thai: really good. maybe it was so good because nick cooked it! :)

baked spasanga: cut the cheese down by 2c. was tasty.  nick loved it. makes a boatload!

ten on tuesday 12.4.12

- finally feeling almost normal after almost two weeks of feeling awful. ;)

- need to do a major cleaning of this house. it's been too long!

- having the hardest time deciding on a cookie exchange cookie. decisions, decisions! and now i'm trying to go egg free. a coworker is vegan and she promised to make us samosas instead of cookies. so i'm going to try to accommodate her since she's making us some pretty intensive stuff.

- need to find energy to finish decorating for christmas and address and mail our christmas cards...

- elfred is back. nothing crazy. just hanging out in random spots. ben likes that he brought him 24 books to open. one for each day until christmas.

- there is a leg lamp in a house i pass on the way to work in the morning. makes me smile every time i notice it.

- took ben to school one morning last week and stopped to buy ben some munchkins. they were 5/$1 or 25/$5.99. what? does the big carton they come in cost $1? i'll take em in a bag if that's the case.

- nick and ben are playing around and ben just turned to him and said, 'i see your tummy button.'

- i miss the cents symbol on my keyboard. and the good ole fashioned division one...

- have fallen off the gift buying bandwagon. better get cracking. christmas is only three weeks away!

friday:
our amvets pile! was so worried that they would forget to come and get everything! but i do love that i don't have to drag everything to good will! feels so good to purge!

family night! easy one this time. pizzas and pies.

ben and bri being silly after dinner.

ben loved that bri could make a house of cards.

someone pointed out that her shape may have been a bit questionable...

a few of us played wits and wagers {might be a new favorite of ours.} and the rest watched madagascar 3

ben was a fan of the timer.

then he visited the couch...

the four of us had a great time playing. was crazy how similar our answers tended to be!

saturday:
i got up early. took ben to the store and was able to put together a few things for a friend who lost her mother unexpectedly.

after seeing the goodies my girlfriend had in her car from a local bakery, we made a quick trip!

spent the day just lounging around and enjoying one another!

a little boy needed lots of 'his guys' to go to bed that evening.

sunday:
ben thought nick's donut was missing something! apparently, he needed some crunch a la lucky charms.

met john and the girls to see wreck it ralph. super cute. the kids {and adults} really enjoyed it!

typical gabby, drea, and ben!

the boys were killing some time before my brother stopped by... you think they are related?

kevin came to borrow nick's car. had to get my mom a new washer. after k and bacon finished the errand, they hung out for a bit. nick had mentioned that his wii was broken. said he couldn't get the disc out. he ordered some parts. decided since kev was here, they should take a look at it together.

so kevin takes it apart.

and there's no cd in it! nick had a giant brain fart or something. his face was priceless!

nick surprised me and did some laundry while watching football after the boys left. yay for husbands who fold laundry!
